Bull Mastiff unusual skin condition?

My Bull Mastiff has developed a red, dry, %26#039;%26#039;scaly%26#039;%26#039; patch under her back leg. About inner thigh area, going up to her stomach. It%26#039;%26#039;s vert dry, and has flaked and peeled off twice now. A bit like sunburn. We initially tried %26#039;%26#039;Savlon%26#039;%26#039; antiseptic cream, but that didn%26#039;%26#039;t do anything. We then took her to the vets, and they prescibed Fuciderm gel. This seemed to mostly clear it up, but it was still pinky and sore looking. We were told by the vet to continue with the gel until the rash had cleared, but it has come back bigger and even more sore looking. It started off as a small patch, about 1 inch dia, and has developed into a saucer sized area in about 3 weeks. We took her to the vets again last night, but the vet said she had not seen anything like this before, and did not know what it was. She%26#039;%26#039;s booked into the vets today to have a biopsy and to be started on anti biotics, but I%26#039;%26#039;m REALLY concerned about what this could be.

My bull mastiff/chow mix gets something like that but so far I%26#039;ve been able to treat it at home by trimming the fur away from the area %26gt;cleaning the spot%26gt;apply antibiotic cream%26gt;It clears right up but I have notice it will get go from a small spot to 2 or 3 times larger overnight !Let us know what the vet said .I%26#039;m a nurse and I thought it was like a hot spot but now I%26#039;m not sure but maybe what Reba has could be different because it does heal quickly ! Good Luck

If your vet hasn%26#039;t already done so, I recommend taking the dog to your vet %26amp; having a skin scrape done to check for demodectic mange.
Reply:Hi, it%26#039;s worrying when your dog has a condition you can%26#039;t clear up. My dogs sometimes get wet eczema which is also difficult to clear up. Assuming your dog doesn%26#039;t have demodectic mange, you could try Aloe Vera gel or a cream containing Bee propolis (from health shops). It works for my guys. One thing with this, you can%26#039;t do any harm, as you can do with some of the chemical creams.
Reply:My dog had similar symptoms.

I took her to the vets and it turned out she had mange.

I would recommend that you take her to the vets to get her skin scraped.
