Worried about accidentally peeling tattoo?

I got my first tattoo 4 days ago and I%26#039;m super paranoid about not damaging it while it heals. My tattoo artist told me to wash twice daily with gentle soap, pat dry, apply Bepanthen (nappy rash cream) and cover with cling film for the first 4 days. This morning, I washed it as usual but when I put the cream on, while I was rubbing it in, little flakes of black started coming off. I wasn%26#039;t rubbing overly hard, just smoothing the cream in. When I patted off the excess cream there were flakes on the kitchen towel. I%26#039;ve heard that it can heal kind of like sunburn, kind of peeling off in little bits. Am I damaging it or is this normal? I%26#039;m due to leave it uncovered and switch to unscented body lotion (I bought E45 lotion) this evening but presumably little flakes will (and should) come off as it renews itself underneath??

it sounds pretty normal.

if the scabs were loose and came off with the lightest of touches then its probably because they were ready to. the fact that you%26#039;ve been taking proper care of it just speeded up the process and meant it%26#039;s healed quickly,

however if the scabs weren%26#039;t ready to come off and you brush them off with too much force then it can cause the tattoo to be patchy but you shouldn%26#039;t worry because that doesnt sound like the case here, and besides if it is patchy, most tattooists will correct it for free once its healed if you go back to where you had it done.

hope this helps.

Don%26#039;t sweat about it peeling. It%26#039;s perfectly normal. My experience (I have a few tats) is that they all peel a little differently. One of my came off as basically one whole piece, so I stuck it in the photo album...cool hey!
Reply:This is normal, dont worry about it, but this is the first time i have ever heard a tattoo artist telling someone to keep a tat covered with cling film for 4 days, they usually say only for the first 2-3 hours.
Reply:Peeling is perfectly normal in a healing tattoo, though it concerns me he told you to wrap it for the first 4 days.. They always tell me not to cover it more than 2 hours after it%26#039;d been done. Tattoos need air to heal properly.
Reply:This is normal. It sounds like you%26#039;re doing a great job in the healing process....just keep doing what you%26#039;re doing. When it starts to scab, don%26#039;t pick at it. That will ruin it. I know someone who did that and it looks like a much lighter shade of ink was used in that particular spot.

Anyways....you%26#039;re doing good.

Congrats......you%26#039;re no longer a tat virgin!

Good luck.
Reply:it is normal but make sure u dnt encourage the peeling as i did and i am now left with cracks through my tattoo where i helped the peeling stage and made it bleed! jus keep it moisturised..xx
